If you have been wanting to get into watersports, Jacksonville is a great place to do it. 22 miles of beaches. 40 miles of the Intracoastal Waterway. 50 public boat launches. 50 miles of the St. Johns River. There are more than 1,100 miles of water for you to test out. From freshwater to saltwater and a mix of both, the natural water in this area offers plenty of space for you to enjoy. Here are popular watersports you can try in the Jacksonville area.

Kayaking:

Rent a kayak and take it out on your own, or join a guided tour, where you can learn about the area or get a good workout in. You can kayak on the ocean, to see dolphins or turtles, or head inland and enjoy the rivers or marshes for a different experience.

Paddleboarding:

Stand up paddleboarding has grown in popularity and it’s a great way to get a good workout with a great view. Enjoy paddleboarding on the lakes, rivers or ocean.

Boating and sailing:

With so much shoreline, it’s no surprise that boating and sailing are popular pastimes. Rent a boat, or bring your own, and spend a day on the water.

Diving:

A great way to see the wildlife, you can go diving or snorkeling along the coast to see what’s living under the surface of the water around one of the 30 reefs in the area.

Surfing:

If you’ve never surfed before, you can take a lesson or rent a board from one of the local shops. If you’re an old pro, then grab your board and head out to one of the beaches!

Fishing:

This activity can be done from the water on a kayak or boat, or from the shoreline. Don’t forget the fishing license you’ll need from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, for both saltwater and freshwater fishing.
